These items seem to cost an arm and a leg in the shops and we couldn't see why. So we began looking into making our own and have used it ever since. Here's the Recipes:
Fine grate 1/2 a cake of plain soap (we use sunlight) Add to 1 litre of boiling water while beating with an egg beater until all the soap is melted.
Melt 1/2 a cup of washing soda in 1 litre of boiling water while beating with the egg beater until all the soda is dissolved.
Add the two mixes together and allow to set. (This normally takes 3 hours)
We use 1 cup per wash.
Comment: It pays to clean the machine out once a month with a hot cycle of washing soda ... allow the machine to stop and sit for an hour.
Fine grate 1/4 a cake of plain soap (we use sunlight) Add to 1 litre of boiling water while beating with an egg beater until all the soap is melted. Add chosen herbs or essential oils.
Melt 1/4 a cup of washing soda in 1 litre of boiling water while beating with the egg beater until all the soda is dissolved.
Add the two mixes together and allow to set. (This normally takes 3 hours)
We wash twice and use a light spray of cider to condition and replace the ph balance.
